Since 1907, the Bright Star in Bessemer has been a crowning jewel in Alabama’s hospitality industry. As Alabama’s oldest restaurant, it has been setting the standard with its quality service and excellent cuisine. Fresh seafood transported from the Gulf Coast daily, the finest steaks available, and fresh home-styled vegetables and produce are customary on the luncheon and a la carte menus.

What has become a Little Rock landmark of national renown -- Doe's Eat Place -- has its origins in the unlikeliest of models, a no-frills diner deep in the delta. But then nothing about Doe's is quite what one would expect from a world-class steakhouse -- except fabulous steaks, that is. A longtime regional favorite, Doe's rose to national prominence during the 1992 presidential election campaign, when Clinton staffers made it their hangout. When then-candidate Clinton was interviewed by Rolling Stone magazine for the September cover story, Doe's was the setting. Throughout the vagaries of political fame & fortune, however, Doe's has maintained its down-to-earth atmosphere. New photographs and clippings may continue their spread across the walls, but the real stars will always be our "eats," including steak you can cut with a fork; burgers, homemade tamales.

Famous for burgers, barbeque, chili, and their own brand of tea (they serve more tea than any other U.S. restaurant), the Beacon has been an Upstate institution for almost 60 years, serving over 1 million people a year. The Beacon serves food with a "talk to me, talk to me" rapidity that comforts the regulars and often disarms the unintiated. Not only have presidents given their nod to the Beacon's good 'n plenty food served fast, the Food Network has featured their cheeseburgers.
