The Town of Calabash is know as the "Seafood Capital of the World." The small coastal town of Calabash is the home of Calabash-style seafood preparation where fresh catches are lightly batted and fried. The town has a high concentration of seafood restaurants, many of which are located on the waterfront where fishing boats unload their fresh catch.

Louis Osteen takes the South’s humble ingredients - collards, grits, she-crab, hush puppies and pork shoulder - and gives them a bit of sophistication. Osteen was named the James Beard Foundation/American Express/Best Chef: Southeast winner, and Saveur magazine listed Louis’s at Pawley’s in its Annual 100.
