The Old Mill is a 1767 fully operational, water-powered, 18th century grist mill that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Open to the public the mill sells all-natural corn meals and grits along with a wide range of mixes including: sweet potato and oat bran muffin mixes, gingerbread, Scottish scones, Scottish shortbread, and heidesand cookie mix (a German shortbread).   Visit the Old Mill Store for these products and other fine foods and crafts from North Carolina.

Beans and cornbread, music, dancing on Courthouse Square, handmade crafts and outrageous outhouse races. The "Arkansas BeanFest Cooking Champion" and the "Arkansas Outhouse Races Champion" are crowned. Watch the next generation of Outhouse Racers compete, as the kids take their seats in pedal powered Outhouses. The KWOZ talent show is held on the Square after the outhouse races.

A hint of autumn in the air means bean and cornbread recipes are perfected for the Arkansas Bean Fest and Great Arkansas Championship Outhouse Race! The Ozark Folk Center State Park will offer free shuttle bus service from our parking lot to downtown Mountain View. The park will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. plus there will be an evening music concert at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Lodging and meals available on site. Winkler Bakery is a historical early 19th century bakery located on Main Street in the Historic Town of Salem. The Bakery still operates today as it did in 1807 when Brother Christian Winkler purchased it from Brother Thomas Buttner. Six days a week the bread and Moravian Sugar Cake are make from scratch by costumed Bread and Sugar Bakers, then it is baked in the wood fired oven, much as Brother Winkler would had done. The aroma coming from the oven brings hungry travelers from all over to buy the fresh breads, cakes and pastries available for sale at Winkler Bakery, which celebrates its 200th anniversary this year. Visitors can also dine at the historic 1816 Old Salem Tavern with servers clad in period dress.

Norman Klappenbach has been in the bakery business for 59 years. In 1987 he received certification as a Master Baker from the Retail Bakers of America. Norman and Lee, his wife, moved their bakery to Fordyce, Arkansas from Walla Walla, Washington in 1975.  In 1988 they expanded and opened a sandwich shop which offers many wonderful sandwiches and homemade soup of the day. The mail order business was started in 1991 due to the request from many of their loyal customers and has grown every year since. The gift boxes were featured in the December 1993 issue of Southern Living for gift giving ideas. The bakery has also been selected several years as "Best Bakery in Arkansas" by Arkansas Times Readers Choice Award.
