Situated in Lafayette on the banks of the Bayou Vermilion, Vermilionville is a Cajun/Creole heritage and folklife park recreates life in the Acadiana area between 1765 and 1890. The beautiful grounds are laid out as an historic village with eighteen structures, including six restored original homes. In most structures, costumed interpreters demonstrate traditional crafts or musical styles. Cooking demonstrations, a full-service restaurant, bakery, gift shop and art gallery enhance time spent at Vermilionville.

Established in 1986, Abita Brewing Company is the oldest craft brewery in the Southeast and one of the oldest craft breweries in the United States. Take a weekend tour of the brewery to to learn the unique Abita Brewing process and sample freshly brewed beer. Afterward, head out to the Abita Brewpub, a full-service restaurant housed in the renovated building where the brand was brewed & bottled until 1994.

Acadian Memorial and Evangeline Oak

The Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville honors the 3,000 men, women `nd children who found refuge in Louisiana after British forces exiled them from Acadie, their homeland on the Atlantic coast of Canada, in the mid 18th Century. Next door, the Evangeline Oak marks the spot where legend has it that two Acadian lovers were reunited after that deportation - the event that inspired Longfellow's "Evangeline."

America's Wetland Birding Trail

Over 100 birding and wildlife sites on 12 driving loops through 22 south Louisiana parishes. Habitats explored include fresh and saltwater marshes, cheniers, upland pine and bottomland hardwood forests, cypress and tupelo swamps, open meadows and lagoons, canals and natural bayous. Over 450 bird species and an assortment of wildlife - including alligators - are accessible to tourists through the trail.

Ancient Mounds Trail

Louisiana was home to many significant prehistoric Native-American cultures, and earthen mounds the tribes left behind are now linked in a trail for history and archaeology enthusiasts and tourists - Louisiana's Ancient Mounds Trail. It is 40 interpreted mound sites in over a dozen northeast and central Louisiana parishes. The trail itself is a mix of public-owned mound sites and sites on private lands that are viewable from public-access highways.

The Atchafalaya Heritage Area includes 13 parishes in south central Louisiana and contains one of America's most dynamic landscapes. With over 838,000 acres and roughly 25% of Louisiana's human population, this vast habitat is home to hundreds of species of fish, birds, mammals and reptiles, and the financial impact of its fisheries, wildlife and recreational resources are estimated at about $97 million annually.

Ten pro-caliber golf courses set in scenic locations across Louisiana. Several of the courses were designed by PGA participants or acclaimed golf course architects. Courses are located in Shreveport, Monroe, Alexandria, Lake Charles, St. Francisville, Marksville, New Orleans (2) Plaquemine and on the banks of Toledo Bend Reservoir.

Cane River National Heritage Area in northwestern Louisiana is a largely rural, agricultural landscape known for its historic plantations, its distinctive Creole architecture, and its French, Spanish, African, American Indian, and Creole multi-cultural legacy. The 116,000-acre heritage area near Natchitoches includes Cane River Creole National Historical Park, seven National Historic Landmarks, three State Historic Sites, and many other historic plantations, homes, and churches.
